Un nuovo sondaggio Gallup dimostra che in America l'appoggio all'aborto legale è al suo livello minimo dal 2000. Solo il 41 per cento degli americani si definiscono “pro choice”, secondo Gallup. Il calo rispetto all' anno scorso è molto forte: nel 2011 erano il 47 per cento. I “pro life” sono al 50%; nel 2009 erano al 51%.

Circa i tre quarti degli americani appoggiano restrizioni legali sull’aborto. Il 20 per cento sostiene che l’aborto dovrebbe essere illegale in tutte le circostanze; un 52% afferma che dovrebbe essere permesso solo in alcuni (non specificati) casi. Solo il 25% appoggia l’idea che l’aborto dovrebbe essere permesso in ogni situazione, come è il caso adesso.

Il poll Gallup vede una sostanziale diminuzione (dieci per cento) nel numero di coloro che si dicono Democratici e “pro choice”, dal 68% al 58%. Fra i votanti indipendenti il calo è eguale: dal51% al 41%. I repubblicani sono in maggioranza “pro life”: 72% contro il 22%.

A new Gallup poll shows that in U.S. support for legal abortion is at its lowest ebb in America since 2000. Only 41% of Americans call themselves “pro-choice”, according the Gallup report. It is a dramatic drop from last year’s figure: in 2011 they were the 47%. “Pro life” are 50% ; in 2009 they were the 51%. Nearly three-fourths of all Americans support legal restrictions on abortion. While 20% say that abortion should be illegal under all circumstances, an additional 52% say that it should be legal only under certain (unspecified) circumstances. Only 25% support the notion that abortion should be allowed under all circumstances, as is currently the case. The Gallup poll shows a striking 10-point drop in the number of self-identified Democrats who identify themselves as “pro-choice”—from 68 to 58%. Among independent voters, too, the “pro-choice” position lost 10 points of supporting, falling from 51 to 41%. Republicans are overwhelmingly “pro-life”: 72-22%.
